Warner Music Group has released the cast recording of the recent Broadway revival of Gypsy, led by six time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald. The album is available on streaming and digital platforms, with physical editions on CD and a two LP vinyl and book set.
The CD includes an eight page booklet with production notes and exclusive photography. The hand numbered, limited edition two LP vinyl and 64 page hardback book features thirteen exclusive essays, complete lyrics, and additional production photography. The first 500 vinyl copies also include a 6 inch by 11 inch colour photograph of McDonald in the recording booth, personally signed.
The revival closed earlier this month under the direction of six time Tony Award winning director George C. Wolfe. Principal cast includes Audra McDonald as Rose, Danny Burstein as Herbie, Joy Woods as Louise, Jordan Tyson as June, Kevin Csolak as Tulsa, and Lesli Margherita as Tessie Tura, with Lili Thomas as Mazeppa, Mylinda Hull as Electra, Summer Rae Daney and Kyleigh Vickers as Baby Louise, Marley Lianne Gomes and Jade Smith as Baby June, Andrew Kober as Mr. Goldstone, Cigar, Bourgeron Cochón, James McMenamin as Weber, Pastey, Phil, Jacob Ming Trent as Uncle Jocko, Thomas Silcott as Pop, Natalie Wachen, and Tryphena Wade.
Producers describe Gypsy, suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, as Broadway’s ultimate story of mothers and daughters, ambition and fame, and the pursuit of the American dream. The musical features a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Creative credits include choreography by Camille A. Brown, music supervision and direction plus additional orchestrations and arrangements by Andy Einhorn, additional orchestrations and arrangements by Daryl Waters, scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Toni Leslie James, lighting design by Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, sound design by Scott Lehrer, hair and wig design by Mia Neal, makeup design by Michael Clifton, animals by William Berloni Theatrical Animals, Inc, dialect and voice coaching by Kate Wilson, casting by Jordan Thaler CSA and Heidi Griffiths CSA, and production stage management by Rick Steiger.
