The Outsiders is on a roll! The Tony Award winner for Best Musical keeps smashing records at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, pulling in an impressive $1.4 million for the week ending July 14. This marks the fourth consecutive week the show has broken the theater’s box office record. Ever since previews began in March, the musical, based on S.E. Hinton’s beloved young adult novel, has consistently played to full houses.

In contrast, the Broadway landscape saw a slight dip in overall grosses following the closing of ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ on July 7. Starring big names like Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez, the musical was a top earner, raking in $2.77 million in its final week. With its departure, Broadway’s total grosses dropped by 7 percent.

Despite the post-holiday lull typical of early July, several shows saw a boost in their weekly grosses. ‘Stereophonic,’ the Best Play winner, brought in $983,845, and Best Musical contender ‘Suffs’ earned $826,096. Although both shows experienced an uptick, their earnings remained below their post-Tony peaks.

Without ‘Merrily,’ Broadway’s heavy hitters continue to dominate. ‘Hamilton’ pulled in $1.9 million, ‘Wicked’ garnered $2.1 million, and ‘The Lion King’ led the pack with $2.5 million, thanks to an extra performance last week.

Summer scheduling shifts are also shaking things up. ‘Illinoise’ added an eighth performance each week, boosting its grosses by nearly $50,000. Post-Tony adjustments have ‘Cabaret’ stars Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin each performing seven out of eight shows weekly. ‘Cabaret’ earned $1.61 million for the week ending July 14, down from the $1.8 million it made when Redmayne and Rankin were performing all shows.
