Billy Crystal to Return to Broadway With Deeply Personal Solo Show

Billy Crystal is preparing to return to Broadway with a new one-man production inspired by the loss of his family home in the Palisades Fire.

Titled 860, after the street number of the destroyed house, the show will explore the defining memories of Crystal’s personal life and career. The 78-year-old actor and comedian is expected to reflect on his family, his work and the moments that have remained most meaningful to him.

The production continues a deeply autobiographical tradition for Crystal, whose earlier solo show, 700 Sundays, examined his childhood on Long Island and his relationship with his father.

Crystal’s father divided his time between producing jazz performances and operating the Commodore Music Shop. Because he worked two jobs, Sundays were often the only days he could devote fully to his son. Crystal was 15 when his father died, and the title 700 Sundays represented the estimated number of Sundays they spent together.

Blending comedy with grief and family history, the play offered an intimate portrait of Crystal’s Jewish upbringing and the music-filled household that shaped him. It also included vivid recollections of childhood milestones, including the story of his circumcision.

The performance earned Crystal his first Tony Award and demonstrated his ability to turn intensely personal experiences into broadly relatable theater.

With 860, Crystal appears set to revisit that same combination of humor, remembrance and loss. This time, the emotional center is a home rather than a parent. The house’s destruction provides a starting point for a wider examination of the people, experiences and career highlights connected to Crystal’s life.
