BEETLEJUICE brings West End closing date forward by 15 weeks

BEETLEJUICE will give its final West End performance at the Prince Edward Theatre on Saturday 2 January 2027, bringing the curtain down 15 weeks earlier than the end date previously advertised for its limited London season. The production had been booking until Saturday 17 April 2027, so the revision removes 105 days from the engagement.

The official UK production homepage and Delfont Mackintosh Theatres both identify 2 January as the final date. The venue schedule lists a 2.30pm matinee and 7.30pm evening performance that Saturday, with no performance on Sunday 3 January. The Stage and London Theatre also report 2 January. Together, those sources correct The Standard’s report that the musical would close on 3 January.

One part of the production’s own website lagged behind when checked: its frequently asked questions page still referred to the season running until April 2027. The updated homepage and the theatre’s live booking schedule are more current and agree on the January endpoint.

The West End production began performances on 20 May 2026 and held its press night on 28 May. Under the revised schedule, it will have played at the Prince Edward Theatre for a little more than seven months, while the former date would have taken the engagement to just under 11 months. Public performances preceded the press night by eight days, and the two dates should not be conflated. The exact number of performances removed and the projected final performance count have not been confirmed.

BEETLEJUICE was marketed as a limited engagement from the outset. The new date therefore shortens an advertised booking period rather than cancelling an open-ended run, but that limited status does not explain why the conclusion was brought forward. No reason for the decision appears on the updated official pages or in the industry reports reviewed. The producers have not disclosed a commercial or operational explanation, and no verified box office, attendance or operating cost figures are available. Without a statement or financial data, attributing the change to sales, costs, profitability or another production would be speculation. No onward UK tour, transfer or future London plan has been announced in the material reviewed.

The production received broadly positive notices after opening, although the available record does not support a claim of unanimous acclaim. Official marketing cites favourable responses from The Standard, The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph and Radio Times. London Theatre’s linked review awarded three stars, showing that the response was not uniformly enthusiastic. No comprehensive review aggregate was available in the reviewed material, so the named notices support a measured description of the reception rather than a universal one. Neither the producers nor the official pages connect the reviews with the shortened season.

David Fynn leads the company as Beetlejuice, with Tom Xander billed as alternate Beetlejuice. Hannah Nordberg plays Lydia Deetz, alongside Daisy Harrison as alternate Lydia. The principal cast also includes David Hunter as Adam Maitland, Chelsea Halfpenny as Barbara Maitland and Alasdair Harvey as Charles Deetz.

A scheduled change in the role of Delia Deetz remains listed for the final months. The current Delfont Mackintosh schedule has Summer Strallen in the role through 31 October, with Aimie Atkinson taking over from 2 November. That timetable resolves inconsistent dates in several secondary reports and is the current official billing.

The musical has music and lyrics by Australian composer-lyricist Eddie Perfect and a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King. Alex Timbers directs, Connor Gallagher is the choreographer, and Kris Kukul provides music supervision, orchestrations and incidental music. Crossroads Live and Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures present the UK production.

Based on Tim Burton’s 1988 film, BEETLEJUICE centres on Lydia Deetz, the recently deceased Maitlands and the demonic title character. The London staging followed three Broadway engagements and a North American tour before reaching the West End in May 2026. AussieTheatre covered the West End transfer when it was announced, including the venue and principal creative team, but that earlier report did not cover the revised closing date.

Eddie Perfect gives the West End production a direct Australian connection, but the London decision is separate from the history of BEETLEJUICE in Australia. The Australian production ended in Brisbane on 5 July 2026 and cancelled its planned Perth, Adelaide and Sydney seasons, as AussieTheatre reported at the time. The two productions operated in different markets, and no connection between the Australian outcome and the West End schedule change has been established.

For customers, the immediate practical consequence concerns bookings after the new final date. No official refund, exchange or rebooking instructions were located for performances from 4 January through 17 April 2027. The absence of published guidance means no automatic process can be stated on the available evidence. Ticket holders should seek current information from the outlet used for their original booking while awaiting any further advice from the production or theatre.
