Adam Garcia Announced as Lead in Nationwide ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ Revival Tour

The much-anticipated revival of the classic musical, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, is set to open on April 30, 2024, at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, marking the beginning of a comprehensive UK tour. In a significant casting announcement, Adam Garcia has been confirmed to play the lead role of Caractacus Potts.

Adam Garcia, renowned for his dynamic performances, is no stranger to the stage and screen. His notable theatrical appearances include Julian Marsh in ’42nd Street’ at Curve and Sadler’s Wells, Tony Manero in ‘Saturday Night Fever’, and Bill Calhoun in ‘Kiss Me, Kate’. Garcia’s filmography extends to major titles such as ‘Death on the Nile’, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, ‘Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen’, ‘Coyote Ugly’, and ‘Riding in Cars with Boys’. Additionally, he recently made headlines as a finalist on the UK series of ‘The Masked Dancer’.

‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ is an adaptation of Ian Fleming’s celebrated children’s story and the beloved 1968 film. The musical is revered for its enchanting songs by the Sherman Brothers, including hits like “Toot Sweets”, “Hushabye Mountain”, “Truly Scrumptious”, and the Oscar-nominated “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”.

This production brings together a stellar creative team. Direction is by Thom Southerland, known for his work on ‘Titanic’ and ‘Parade’, with choreography by Karen Bruce, acclaimed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘The Bodyguard’. The team also includes Morgan Large (set and costume design), Ben Cracknell (lighting design), Gareth Tucker (sound design), and musical supervision by George Dyer. Casting responsibilities are overseen by Debbie O’Brien.

The musical, with music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams, and based on the MGM motion picture, narrates the adventures of Caractacus Potts. An inventor and father, Potts, along with his children Jemima and Jeremy, discovers a decrepit racing car with unexpected magical properties.

The tour will travel across the UK, with scheduled stops in cities including Woking, Wimbledon, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Bromley, Milton Keynes, Belfast, Torquay, Llandudno, Glasgow, Inverness, Norwich, Oxford, Liverpool, Stoke, Leicester, Eastbourne, and Bournemouth. The revival promises to be a nostalgic journey, reigniting the magic of this timeless story for a new generation of audiences.
