Aaron Tveit and Joanna ‘JoJo’ Levesque Perform ‘Come What May’ From Moulin Rouge! on Good Morning America

The Broadway sensation Moulin Rouge! The Musical, winner of multiple Tony Awards, recently welcomed back original cast member Aaron Tveit and singer-actress Joanna “JoJo” Levesque. The duo performed a stunning rendition of “Come What May” on Good Morning America on July 23, captivating audiences nationwide. Additionally, the cast treated viewers to another energetic number, “Shut Up and Raise Your Glass.”

Tveit and Levesque have returned to their roles as Christian and Satine for a 12-week limited engagement at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, running through October 13. Their return coincides with the show’s fifth anniversary on July 25. Tveit, who won a Tony for his portrayal of Christian, has an impressive Broadway resume including roles in Catch Me If You Can, Next to Normal, Wicked, and Hairspray. He was most recently seen opposite Sutton Foster in the revival of Sweeney Todd. On July 24, Tveit also shared some happy personal news, adding to the excitement.

Levesque made her Broadway debut as Satine last year, bringing her dynamic presence to the stage. Known for her breakout single “Leave (Get Out)” at just 13, she became the youngest solo artist to have a debut No. 1 single in the U.S. She followed this success with a second platinum album and a Grammy-winning song, “Say So,” with PJ Morton. Levesque’s first book, “Over The Influence: A Memoir,” is set to be released on September 17.

The current Broadway company also includes Austin Durant as Harold Zidler, André Ward as Toulouse-Lautrec, David Harris as The Duke of Monroth, Ricky Rojas as Santiago, and Sophie Carmen-Jones as Nini. Hailee Kaleem Wright serves as the Satine Alternate.

The ensemble features a talented group including Jacqueline B. Arnold, Tasia Jungbauer, Jeigh Madjus, Alexander Gil Cruz, Aaron C. Finley, Bahiyah Hibah, Kamal Lado, Tyler Logan, Heather Makalani, Nick Martinez, Kaitlin Mesh, Jenn Stafford, Brooke Taylor, Alec Varcas, Frank Viveros, Cole Joseph Wachman, Shaun-Avery Williams, Jordan Wynn, and Ricardo A. Zayas.

Based on the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, Moulin Rouge! opened on Broadway in 2019 following a successful Boston tryout. The musical was nominated for 14 Tony Awards in 2020 and won 10, including Best Musical. Directed by Alex Timbers, with a book by John Logan and choreography by Sonya Tayeh, the score features popular covers like “Firework” by Katy Perry, “Your Song” by Elton John, and “Chandelier” by Sia. Set in Paris’ famed Moulin Rouge, the story follows the tragic romance between performer Satine and composer Christian.

The creative team for the production includes musical supervisor Justin Levine, music producer Matt Stine, music director Julie McBride, with orchestrations by Levine, Stine, Katie Kresek, and Charlie Rosen, and dance arrangements by Levine and Stine. Scenic design is by Derek McLane, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Justin Townsend, sound by Peter Hylenski, hair by David Brian Brown, and makeup by Sarah Cimino. Creative services are provided by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, with casting by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel.
