The musicals set to perform at the 77th Annual Tony Awards have been announced. The ceremony will take place on June 16 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, broadcasting live nationwide.
The awards show will feature performances from the nominees for Best Musical and Best Revival of a Musical, including Cabaret, Hell’s Kitchen, Illinoise, Merrily We Roll Along, Suffs, The Outsiders, The Who’s Tommy, and Water for Elephants. The specific numbers to be performed will be kept under wraps until the broadcast.
The event will kick off with a 90-minute pre-show, The Tony Awards: Act One, streaming for free on Pluto TV starting at 6:30 PM ET. The main ceremony will follow at 8 PM ET on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+ for premium-level subscribers. Julianne Hough and Utkarsh Ambudkar will host Act One, while Oscar winner Ariana DeBose returns to host the Tony Awards for the third consecutive year.
Notably absent from the announced performances are current musicals like The Notebook, The Wiz, and The Heart of Rock and Roll, which did not receive nominations in the production categories. Although typically, only Best Musical or Best Revival of a Musical nominees perform at the Tony Awards, there have been exceptions in the past, such as A Beautiful Noise in 2023 and The Cher Show in 2019.
Additionally, the play Stereophonic, nominated for Best Score, will not be featured in the telecast. Playwright David Adjmi expressed his disappointment on social media, stating, “We wanted to perform but they weren’t into it. We tried!”
The nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards were announced on April 30, with Hell’s Kitchen and Stereophonic leading the pack with 13 nominations each.
