Two Hodels from Fiddler on the Roof NYC and Australia join forces in this great video

We live in an incredible time. Technology allows us a greater interaction with the world at large than we have ever experienced before, and all sectors of the workforce can benefit. Including the musical theatre sector.

This week, two actresses from two different continents (who happen to be playing the same role in two productions of the same musical) came together to create a fantastic clip about life, theatre and Fiddler on the Roof.

Introducing Australia’s Monica Swayne and America’s Samantha Massell: both playing Hodel in their respective country’s respective productions of Fiddler on the Roof. Check out what they have to say about their video project and enjoy their backstage Fiddler on the Roof interviews. (They really are something else!)

We both play the role of Hodel, we started our shows around the same time, and opened a month apart from each other. Monica in Australia and Samantha in New York on Broadway. So when does this ever happen!!!??? Not that often. Not to mention we are both quite alike. So we decided to put together a short film where we got to interview each other and find the answers to questions we wanted to know. Some are about the show, others have nothing to do with Fiddler but life and past experiences. We hope you enjoy and L’Chaim

Fiddler on the Roof Australia is playing at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney until Sunday 8 May 2016.

Fiddler of the Roof Broadway is currently playing at the Broadway Theatre, 1681 Broadway, New York NY

Thank you to the teams at Fiddler Australia and NYC for helping this fantastic idea become a reality!

  • Good to see Reed Luplau from Perth in the NYC production of Fiddler On The Roof also. He is one of the dancers who do the bottle dance and gets to play the Fiddler a lot as well. He trained at his mother's dance school The Jody Marshall Dance Company and studied at the Australian Ballet School, then joined Sydney Dance Company. He recently was seen in the movie Five Dances. He is a very talented performer.
