It’s all about me

Time to renew my membership to self promoters anonymous, because I have a new show and I’m more excited than Big Kev could ever muster. Petroleum opens this week at the Fusebox Theatre in The Factory Theatre space at Marrickville in Sydney.

As a writer I’m proud of every show I write, but just like any parent (no matter how much they deny), there are children of mine I am prouder of. This is one such play. The show is looking great and I am excited to get an audience in to see how they enjoy this play.

Petroleum is set in the year 2032 when petrol is the currency of the world. A petrol company, Central Corp, now runs a post apocalyptic Australia. Think a Mad Max style Australia, and you’re looking in the right direction. The play is set in the country town of Forbes, where a bitter battle has broken out between a resistance movement and the local militia. Throw in a love story between resistance member Skylar and soldier Tanner, and you have action for the boys, a love story for the girls, and for the gay men, some real nice eye candy!!

This is an amazing cast, a hot young cast (a couple of us old fellas for good measure) and it is directed by the very talented Alexandra Byron. Mim Pearson has done an amazing set and Larry Kelly has again excelled with his lighting design.

If you are in Sydney, I urge you to come see this show. I hope it has the right blend of social commentary and drama. Think people will enjoy while being provoked by an important issue, this planet’s unrelenting thirst for petrol.

Independent theatre is the back bone of our industry, so get along and see Petroleum (on until Oct 10).
