Scotch And Soda
This show is one of the top class circus / music shows getting around. And as I said last time I saw (and reviewed) one – there are so many now that given the in fashion genre, one has to be excellent to stand out in the crowd. Scotch and Soda is excellent. Amazing circus paired with incredible jazz and performers of the highest calibre melding with the fantastic music sees us completely mesmerised. It blew me away… totally.
There is so much astounding happening on the stage that it is difficult to write about it all; lots of amazing feats that I haven’t seen before; and that is what makes this one a notch above lots of the others. Innovative, risky and so very cool: the balancing on and walking on bottles, the boxes and cases stacked so dam high that it is mindboggling how our acrobatic genius stays on top of it all; the stunts using crutches, the bicycle tricks, the highwire work with a classy difference, the see-saw jumps and more and more… and then when we think it can’t get any better… a guy on the top of a long pole held by another strong performer. Wow!
There is some fine character work here too; each of the performers endearing themselves to us with real on-stage panache, playing sexy and cheeky along the way, dancing in bouts with the tunes and drifting effortlessly from one act to the next; one of the lads flirting and flashing his butt when he gets the chance, and his mate playing cute between and during the stunts.
This wonderful fit and talented team of guys and girls deserve all the accolades that they get. And they were getting plenty on my night in The Panama Club.
And as an added bonus we get some seriously special music which could stand alone as a show. Instrumental solos working beautifully with circus stuff, that one wonders how is humanly possible to actually do.
The human body is awesome and Scotch and Soda hit this home – continuously!
