She’s going to be singing “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” as Mother Abbess in the 2015 national tour of The Sound of Music, and while she might not be musical theatre’s most familiar name, Jacqui Dark is absolutely no stranger to Australian and international stages.
A full-fledged opera star, Jacqui started her career with the Winer Staatsoper before returning to Australia as a force to be reckoned with. She’s performed in Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Albert Herring, Iolanthe, Rigoletto, and dozens more.
Recently she has won awards for her performances in Don Giovanni and Der Ring des Nibelungen.
For Opera Australia this year she has performed in Aida on Sydney Harbour, and will appear as Ortrud in Lohengrin in Brazil.
But this lady with the impressive classical resume has a wicked sense of humour, and with partner-in-crime Kanen Breen has created Strange Bedfellows: Under the Covers, an eclectic, naughty, dangerously fun cabaret act, which you can catch at Melbourne’s Cabaret Festival on 19 and 20 June.
Here’s Jacqui in all her cabaret glory, singing “Everything About You/Every Day I Love You Less and Less”, with Kanen Breen.
Happy Sunday!
