  EXCLUSIVE

AussieTheatre.com understands that Anthony Warlow (pictured) and Todd McKenney are among the stars set to be named in the new Australian cast of Annie, opening in Sydney next year.

The Musical Annie is based on the popular comic strip Little Orphan Annie with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan. The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years.

Warlow is no stranger to the show, playing the role of Daddy Warbucks in 2000-2001. Daddy Warbucks’ song “Why Should I Change A Thing” was written specifically for Warlow in the Australian tour. He is currently playing the role of Yuri Zhivago in Dr Zhivago, which is playing at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Todd McKenney, well known as a judge on the hugely popular television series Dancing With The Stars, and also as a breakfast radio presenter in Sydney, is one of Australia’s leading showmen. The winner of the 2005 Mo Award in the Versatile Variety Performer of the Year category, McKenney has wowed audiences as Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz, Don Lockwood in Singing In The Rain, and the Emcee in Cabaret.

Produced by the Gordon Frost Organisation, the show’s ensemble auditions begin on May 24 in Melbourne. The leading principal roles of Daddy Warbucks, Rooster, Lilly St Regis and Miss Hannigan have been cast.
