Sydney Theatre Company collaborates with Australian Theatre for Young People on Polly Stenham’s absorbing tale of family loyalty, Tusk Tusk, as part of STC’s Next Stage program, at Wharf 1 from August 13 to September 4, 2010.
In a new flat strewn with yet to be unpacked boxes, three children play hide and seek, expertly avoiding the unwanted attentions of prying adults. Within these walls they will battle one another in a bid to protect themselves from an unnamed enemy outside.
As they joke, tease and laugh like soul mates, they also hide from a terrible truth: all three are hanging by a silent mobile phone. Will it ring? Who will call? And what are they waiting for?
Dancing a fine line between hilarity and heartache, Tusk Tusk is the new play from 22-year-old British playwright, Polly Stenham (That Face). The play premiered to huge critical acclaim at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in March 2009.
Director Shannon Murphy’s credits include Crestfall for Griffin Theatre Company and My Name Is Rachel Corrie for B Sharp and Bareboard Productions. She was Assistant Director on Sydney Theatre Company’s Rabbit.
The show stars Krew Boylan, Airlie-Jane Dodds, Marta Dusseldorp, Kai Lewins, Cameron Stewart, Miles Szanto and Zac Ynfante.
