Trouble at Cherry Tree Lane

It has been confirmed that a performance of Mary Poppins was cancelled mid-show.

It has been confirmed that this evening’s performance of Mary Poppins was cancelled mid-show.

Rumblings on twitter began when the set malfunctioned, with tweeters mentioning ‘stage stalls’ and ‘malfunctions’.

AussieTheatre.com understands that it was when the Banks’ House (which is an integral set piece), moved forward after the song and dance number ‘Jolly Holiday’, that the malfunction took place.

One tweeter said “it came off the rails n shook violently. They stopped n tried again no luck”

It is understood that while the show did attempt to continue, something critical must have happened to the set to render it unsafe for the performers to continue working. The safety of the performers is obviously the most important consideration in a situation such as this.

The audience and cast have now been sent home.

Mary Poppins is currently playing at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney and is set to transfer to the Lyric Theatre, QPAC in December.

More details to come.
