The Officers (and gentlemen) are looking sharp – first rehearsal run a success

If you thought working in music theatre was all sunshine lollipops and rainbows, you’ve got another think coming.
Members of the adult cast of An Officer and a Gentleman, currently rehearsing at the ABC Studios in Sydney, are not only working 6 days a week to create and stage this world premiere musical, they are undergoing rigorous physical training to prepare themselves physically for Andrew Hallsworth’s intense ‘military’ choreography featured throughout the show.
Part of the training regime recently included running from the Lyric Theatre, where the show is set to open on May 18 this year, back to the ABC rehearsal studios in Ultimo for fitness.
“I’m very happy that I managed to save money on my cab charge account. Keep it up guys!”, quipped Producer John Frost, tongue firmly planted in cheek.
This brand new production, directed by Simon Phillips and featuring a book by original screen writer Douglas Day Stewart and writing parnter Sharleen Cooper Cohen, will feature 2 revolves and over 50 different scenes set to a score by Robin Lerner and Ken Hirsch.
“I’m thrilled the way rehearsals are going and after seeing the first run of the show in the rehearsal room I don’t think any one is going to be disappointed”, said Frost.
AussieTheatre is currently featuring an exclusive An Officer and a Gentleman blog, penned by principal cast member Alex Rathgeber, offering insights into the creative process and the development of this world premiere event.
