The Australian Ballet School debuts Now in Brisbane

The Australian Ballet School is delighted to present its first ever performances in Brisbane, NOW, featuring over 67 full-time students at the school, delivering three performances.

Honouring ballet’s rich tradition while also taking bold steps into its future, the performance will run from Friday 12th September to Saturday 13th September.

The bold and brilliant program will include Queensland dancers Bronte and Yamina, whose talent and dedication has earned them high distinction within the dance community and a place at The Australian Ballet School. Their early training in Queensland was marked by impressive achievements, and both now continue to thrive artistically and technically at The Australian Ballet School, where they are developing into outstanding young artists.

Designed to entertain all ages, the program will include George Balanchine’s timeless,Scotch Symphony, the iconic Entrance of the Shades from La Bayadère and striking contemporary works from leading Australian choreographers.

Scotch Symphony – George Balanchine’s work is incredibly challenging and has been chosen to showcase the exceptional talent at The Australian Ballet School. Balanchine’s ballets are sacred among the ballet world and only approved companies or schools are given permission from the Balanchine Trust to perform them.

Lyra – Fierce dancers and bold colour come together in a work that seamlessly integrates classical ballet and contemporary dance by the incredible Australian choreographer Prue Lang.

A Dream Story – This captivating work brings our dreams to life with a myriad of memories, images and even animal shapes morphing from one thing into another. The piece is choreographed by former graduate and acclaimed choreographer Lucas Jervies.

La Bayadère: Entrance of the Shades – One of ballet’s most loved ‘white acts’, this piece is a mesmerising and breathtaking performance of grace, line and beauty. A dreamlike, breathtaking performance. This piece was choreographed by one of the most influential figures of classical ballet, Marius Petipa.

Echoes in Motion – An evocative new work with an all-male cast, the performance expresses the life cycle of a male dancer, the challenges and triumphs encountered along the path of artistic growth and self-discovery. This moving piece is choreographed by former Principal Artist of The Australian Ballet Kevin Jackson.

Megan Connelly, Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet School :

We’re absolutely thrilled to bring our extraordinary pre-professional students to Brisbane for the very first time. Following the incredible response to our 60th Anniversary interstate tour to the Sydney Opera House, it’s a joy to now share the passion, precision, and promise of these young dancers with Queensland audiences. NOW is both a tribute to ballet’s rich history and a thrilling glimpse into the future being shaped by the next generation of artists.

Performed in the QUT Gardens Theatre, NOW runs from 12 – 13 September 2025. Tickets are on sale now.
