The 2023 Melbourne International Comedy Festival kicks off this month!

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival will be tickling funny bones before the month is done with more than 600 shows on offer. The official program guide will be available in The Sunday Age on 5 March.

It’s also a big year for a little Island with the two biggest nights on the Australian comedy calendar to be hosted by Tassie expats. Off the back of his Australian Taskmaster debut and wedding, ABC and Festival favourite Luke McGregor will host The Gala, proudly supporting Oxfam. Just one week later and to officially open the Festival, our own international award-winning Hannah Gadsby will take charge of the Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow.

Luke McGregor:

I’m really looking forward to hosting The Gala this year. It’s an honour to be asked, it’s one of the biggest nights of the comedy festival, and it’s the first time my partner (now wife) will see me do live stand up so noooooooo pressure.

Hannah Gadsby:

The Melbourne Comedy Festival is where I first found my feet as a comedia (metaphorically), and I’m happy to report that this year I’ll finally find my feet there again (literally). I am really very chuffed to get to host the Opening Night Gala as part of the first all Tasmanian hosting line up (probably).

Both The Gala and the Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow are sold out. Limited final release tickets may be available closer to the events. Both will be recorded live at the iconic Palais Theatre and screen later on ABC TV and ABC iview.

The Festival’s line-up includes Australia’s funniest performers and world-class International talent with award-winning stand-up, cabaret, sketch, circus and more. There are also late-night shows, family friendly events, and free performances so that everyone can get involved.

The official Festival Program Guide is released this Sunday 5 March in The Sunday Age.

The Gala airs on ABC TV & ABC iview on Wednesday 29 March at 9pm.

Opaning Night Comedy Allstars Supershow airs on ABC TV & ABC iview on Wednesday 5 April at 9pm.
