Szeps steps onto the Riverside stage, April

Australian theatre icon Henri Szeps brings his latest one-man show Wish I’d Said That to the Riverside Theatre for four performances only.

At times touching and hilarious, Wish I’d Said That is the story of Joe Bleakley – a ‘retired’ actor who reached for the stars, but never got much further than mediocrity. After arriving at the Foggadieu Retirement Village, Joe decides to stage a performance for the other residents and puts together a selection of his favourite speeches from some of the great roles he never got to play.

“Joe Bleakley has never been centre stage. This tale is about a man looking back on his life, with his regrets and joys, and tiny glimpses of understanding, and yet he has irrepressible hope”, said Henri Szeps.

“This is the third one-man show I’ve written and the fifth I’ve performed. It really does contain stuff I wish I’d said. It’s full of wonderful jokes, wonderful songs and great speeches.”

Throughout the course of the show, the audience are treated to excerpts from King Lear, Teahouse of the August Moon, and nuggets of wisdom from Neil Simon, Eugene O’Neill and Oscar Hammerstein II.
