Sydney: get ready to get Kinky! Cyndi Lauper musical Kinky Boots announces Sydney season

It has absolutely made a splash in Melbourne, and now we know Sydney will play host to the strutting extravaganza that is Kinky Boots the musical. You’ll be able to catch it at the Capitol Theatre from April 2017.

Based on the charming British film, featuring a book by Harvey Fierstein and music by the Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots is a story about shoes, drag queens, and finding love, acceptance, and hope in unlikely places.

“Australian audiences have embraced this show so enthusiastically I am delighted, together with my partners Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, to announce a Sydney season so that even more people can experience the joy and fun of Kinky Boots and the talents of this phenomenal cast,” said Australian producer Michael Cassel.

“We have theatregoers of all ages and from all walks of life laughing, crying and cheering every night – I just can’t wait for Sydneysiders to experience that Kinky Boots high.”

Callum Francis and Toby Francis (no relation!) star as principal characters Lola and Charlie – the fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos and the young man he inspires with an outrageous idea that could change both their destinies.

Rounding out the cast are Sophie Wright (Lauren), Joe Kosky (Don), Teagan Wouters (Nicola) and Nathan Carter (George), along with Blake Appelqvist, James Delisco Beeks, comedy veteran Glenn Butcher, Hilary Cole, Jessica Condon, Richard Crandle, Denise Devlin, Euan Doidge, Daniel Downing, Bronte Florian, Linden Furnell, Ryan Gonzalez, Samm Hagen, Anthony Harkin, Jenni Little, Liam Peel, Emma Powell, Matthew Predny, Eric Rasmussen, Mark Simpson, Mark Stefanoff and Mitchell Woodcock.

Our own Anne-Marie Peard was at the show’s opening night and Melbourne, and she says “With its glitter-pop songs, Kinky Boots wears its huge heart on its sleeve… it’s impossible to not get caught up in the joy.”

Tickets for the Sydney season go on sale on December 5 through Ticketmaster or kinkybootsthemusical.com.au. Read all our Kinky Boots coverage to get amped for the show!
