Sydney Dance Company returns to the global stage with its 2025 International Tour
Iconic works, prestigious festivals and an artistic residency for a major new creation by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela.
Sydney Dance Company is set to captivate global audiences once again with its highly anticipated 2025 International Tour, unfolding from June through to August. The ensemble will perform across some of Europe’s major cultural capitals, including Paris, Ljubljana, Helsinki, Spoleto and Athens – bringing its inimitable brand of contemporary dance to some of the continent’s most revered stages and historic sites.
Celebrated for its technical prowess and unique artistry, Sydney Dance Company will present a trio of landmark works: Impermanence, Love Lock and Forever & Ever. This critically acclaimed repertoire showcases the Company’s bold choreographic vision, affirming its position as one of the world’s leading contemporary dance ensembles.
Marking a significant return to several of Europe’s leading venues, the ensemble will perform at La Villette in partnership with Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse in Paris, following lauded performances in 2018 and 2021.
The Company returns to the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens for the first time since opening the Athens Epidaurus Festival in 1986. The ancient, open-air theatre situated below the Acropolis offers audiences a profoundly atmospheric backdrop to experience contemporary Australian dance — a rare synthesis of antiquity and avant-garde movement.
At the invitation of Italy’s Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi, the Company will return to one of Europe’s most esteemed multi-disciplinary festivals. Here, within a program that celebrates artistic innovation, the Company will present its work as part of a culturally rich and dynamic lineup The ensemble will also make its debut at Helsinki Festival, Finland’s largest multi-arts celebration.
This milestone engagement introduces Sydney Dance Company to new audiences, presenting alongside an impressive collective of international artists and companies, confirming the Company as a globally respected creative force.
Between performances, the tour includes a creative residency at Orsolina28 in Italy, a prestigious foundation that hosts many of the most prominent voices in contemporary dance. This inspiring setting for renowned choreographers, composers and artists will see Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela begin development on Spell, his new creation for 2025.
The work will have its world premiere in Sydney as part of Continuum, running from 22 October – 1 November.

These invitations speak to the global recognition of Sydney Dance Company, and I am particularly excited about our creative residency at Orsolina28, where we will begin to develop Spell, as part of our upcoming triple bill Continuum.
