Snow warning for Brisbane

How To Make It Snow – the little red company

Amidst the hottest December Brisbane has seen in recent years, the little red company and St Laurence’s College invite you into a winter wonderland at the new Australian production of How to Make Snow, where they promise to make it snow inside the theatre.

How to Make Snow is a whimsical journey from wheelie-bin lined suburban streets to far-flung ice-fields of the North Pole, as one young boy tries to fulfill a seemingly impossible holiday wish – to make it snow for Christmas.

This special festive event for the whole family stars André Rieu’s ‘Angel of Australia’ – ARIA winning soprano Mirusia Louwerse, The Ten Tenors’ Luke Kennedy and award-winning Australian stage and screen actor Bryan Probets (1984, The Great Gatsby), joined by an ensemble of Brisbane’s finest young student actors.

How to Make Snow is the brainchild of Brisbane writer/director Daniel Evans and producer/ performer Naomi Price.

“Naomi is a London native and especially misses white Christmas wonderlands,” Evans said of the production’s origins.

“Her idea was to create a work that explores the tension between Yuletide in the tropics and classic Christmas iconography. This story is about one boy’s journey to reconcile the two – a near impossible mission! How do you make it snow in 40-degree heat? You can. And he does. He will make it snow inside the theatre – come see for yourself!”

For this premiere season, 50 young performers from Brisbane high schools will perform alongside industry professionals.

“We are so fortunate to have secured three talented professional artists to lead this production,” Evans said.

“I fell in love with Brisbane-born soprano Mirusia Louwerse when she was touring the world with celebrity violinist André Rieu; Luke Kennedy of The Ten Tenors fame is one of the state’s most accomplished leading men of musical theatre; and award-winning stage and screen actor Bryan Probets is widely regarded as one of Australia’s national treasures.”

How to Make Snow plays just four performances this week from 20-22 December at the Edmund Rice Performing Arts Centre, South Brisbane.
