Shubshri Kandiah to star in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST as the Disney musical debuts in Perth

Perth-born performer Shubshri Kandiah is set to return to her hometown in July 2025 as Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast The Musical. The production, which has already captivated audiences in Melbourne, will mark its Perth debut at Crown Perth, bringing a beloved Disney classic to life for local audiences.

Kandiah, who recently visited Perth with her co-star Brendan Xavier, spent time reconnecting with her roots while promoting the show. During her visit, she embraced her character’s iconic look by wearing a yellow gown created by Perth-based designer Meraki.

Growing up in a family immersed in Indian classical music and dance, Kandiah developed a passion for performance from an early age. Her love for Disney films inspired her journey into musical theatre, which began to take shape during her high school years at Penrhos College. A standout performance as Miss Dorothy in a production of Thoroughly Modern Millie solidified her decision to pursue a career in the arts.

Her career has since flourished, with leading roles in major productions such as Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin The Musical and the title role in Cinderella in Sydney. Kandiah now brings her experience and passion to the role of Belle, delivering a heartfelt performance in a production that reimagines the magic of Disney’s 1991 animated classic.

Brendan Xavier, who portrays the Beast, is supported by a world-class production team. The musical showcases stunning pyrotechnics, intricate practical effects, and innovative stagecraft, creating a spectacle that promises to enchant audiences. This production also introduces a fresh interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, offering a grand, Broadway-caliber experience that sets it apart from previous iterations.

As a story that has charmed generations, Beauty and the Beast continues to hold a special place in the hearts of fans. The Perth season is expected to draw multigenerational audiences, appealing to long-time Disney enthusiasts and new viewers alike. The show’s timeless themes, iconic songs, and spectacular staging make it a must-see event.

Kandiah is looking forward to exploring Perth with her castmates during the show’s run, including visits to well-loved local destinations such as Rottnest Island. With the holiday season approaching, she encourages families to consider the musical as a gift that can be enjoyed together.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast The Musical will premiere at Crown Perth in July 2025.

Tickets are now on sale, offering Perth audiences a chance to experience this magical production live on stage.
