Short+Sweet Sydney, the world’s largest festival of 10 minute plays, is ramping up for its eleventh year. This is a call for all actors, directors and Independent Theatre Companies who wish to be involved in the ‘The world’s biggest little theatre festival’!
This year sees the departure of long-standing festival director Alex Broun, who is focusing on his career as the world’s leading writer of 10 minute plays. Alex championed numerous initiatives which helped the inner-west based festival Short+Sweet become hugely popular, such as the Wildcard program, the 10 minute time limit, the Gala Final and the People’s Choice voting. He will be missed by hundreds – if not thousands – of artists!
In 2012, writer and director Pete Malicki will be taking the festival director position. Pete is a long-time supporter and active participant of Short + Sweet, having been previously involved as a writer, director, assistant stage manager, program coordinator and website administrator. He brings enthusiasm for the arts and a strong background in business and administration. Most recently he has held the post of Short+Sweet’s Literary Manager and runs the highly successful script and artist development program Crash Test Drama.
Among new initiatives already announced, Short+Sweet 2012 will offer a $5,000 cash prize for the winner of the Best Director award.
Registrations for actors and directors are now open. Auditions won’t take place until November but those who register early will be invited to free workshops on a range of practical subjects and offered valuable networking and skill-sharing opportunities.
