From October 27, Melbourne’s shortest and sexiest cabaret season returns to Chapel Off Chapel.
The aim of the Short+Sweet festivals is to provide artists with a professional platform to create and present their work. All artists involved in the 10-minute cabaret festival go in the running for the top 8 spots at this year’s Gala Final performance on November 6, 2011. All performances will be viewed by a panel of expert judges, who vote on the candidates for the main awards of the season including ‘Best Cabaret’, ‘Runner-up’ and ‘Best Writing’.
Melbourne audiences will have the unique opportunity to become more involved in the festival by voting on their favourite piece. Each audience member is given a slip of paper, and asked to cast their vote at the end of the evening. The performance with the most audience votes over the whole season will receive the People’s Choice Award. Festival Director, Emma Clair Ford, says that this year’s line up is looking fantastic. “I am absolutely delighted with the level of dedication, professionalism and creativity that this year’s artists have brought to the festival. It is shaping up to be a truly brilliant season”, she said. With over 70 artists involved in this year’s festival (40 acts in total), the Short and Sweet Cabaret Festival is certainly bursting at the seams with talent, ambition and innovation. “I am honoured to present the work of these artists, and can’t wait to see who the audience and judges vote for – they have some tough decisions to make with this lot!”, she said.
The festival runs from October 27 to November 6 at Chapel Off Chapel, Prahran Image – Porcelain Puch, photographed by Rebecca Humphries.
