Seraphim Trio brings GALLIC CHARM to Melbourne Recital Centre in August

Over the last two decades, Seraphim Trio, Helen Ayres (violin), Anna Goldsworthy (piano) and Tim Nankervis (cello), has remained steadfastly committed to chamber music from building the contemporary repertoire, to developing new audiences and teaching the next generation of performers.

In August 2022, Seraphim Trio is presenting the beloved Ravel piano trio alongside a rarely heard trio of Ravel’s student and compatriot, Germaine Taille ferre. The trio is also excited to present a brilliant trio by young Sydney-based composer Elizabeth Younan. Seraphim Trio are performing on Monday 1st August at 6pm at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

In this concert Seraphim Trio presents the beloved Ravel piano trio alongside a rarely heard trio of Ravel’s student and compatriot, Germaine Tailleferre. She began work on her trio in 1916  (just two years after Ravel composed his), but it was not until sixty years later that she completed it on a commission from the French Ministry of Culture. As the only female member of Les Six, Taill ferre was vehemently original in style. Her trio, filled with Gallic beauty, will be one of this year’s uplifting discoveries.

Seraphim is also thrilled to present a brilliant trio by Sydney born composer Elizabeth Younan. Younan was the first Australian composer to be admitted to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music. This Piano Trio was her first composition written as a student there, and beneath the network of motivic development, and moments of acerbic intensity, there is an undertone of anticipatory excitement.

The program Gallic Charm on Monday 1 August includes:

  • Germaine Tailleferre Piano Trio, Elizabeth Younan Piano Trio and Ravel Piano Trio in A minor.

Seraphim Trio performs GALLIC CHARM in Primrose Potter Salon at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Corner Southbank Boulevard and Sturt Street, Southbank on Monday 1 August at 6.00pm.
