Rohan Browne and Cameron Macdonald to join cast of Disney’s Camp Rock: The Musical at Stage Masters

Stage Masters are a Melbourne based production company with a very specific aim: to take an active role in shaping the future of the performing arts through positive and professional training of our young performers.

After successful productions over the last few years featuring some of Victoria’s youngest and most talented performers (High School Musical, 13 – A New Musical, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown), Stage Masters are at it again, with their upcoming production of Disney’s CAMP ROCK: The Musical set to open this week.

Based on the film which starred the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato and threw teens into a frenzy around the world upon its release, this production will not only feature two alternating casts of 30 young performers but two music theatre professionals – Rohan Browne and Cameron MacDonald – in the adult roles of Cesario Brown and Axel Turner.

Browne, who recently starred as Don Lockwood in Singin’ in the Rain and recently played alongside Geoffrey Rush in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum has appeared in countless musicals across the country. Other credits include Carmen Ghia in The Producers, Zach in A Chorus Line, Riff in the highly acclaimed revival of West Side Story, Fred Casely in ChicagoRum Tum Tugger in Cats, the world premiere of The Boy From OzGrease, Dirty Dancing, Kiss Me, Kate, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Follies and Mame.

Cameron’s theatre credits include the National & NZ tour of Jersey Boys playing the role of Knuckles, Mamma Mia (National tour), Anthony Costanzo’s Life’s A CircusAltar Boys and Miss Saigon (National Tour).

Stage Masters’ Co-Director David Venn believes that the chance to work with Browne and Macdonald in this production will be an invaluable experience for the young performers involved.

“The young cast will get a taste of the professional theatre world working with experience performers in an professional setting. They will have the opportunity to learn from them and see them at work in the rehearsal room”, he told AussieTheatre.

Camp Rock opens at the Randall Theatre (St Martins Youth Arts Centre) in South Yarra on Thursday 17 October and plays through till Sunday 27 October.
