Rix and Mathers sign on again for Wicked Australasia

It was confirmed last week that Jemma Rix and Suzie Mathers will star as Elphaba and Glinda in the upcoming New Zealand season of Wicked.
To date, Rix and Mathers have performed these coveted roles together many times, and fans of the show will be happy to see the pair reunited in the next leg of Wicked’s Australasian journey.
Both women began their Wicked journey in the original Australian production, which opened in 2008 at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre. Rix was the Elphaba standby, taking over the principal role from Amanda Harrison later in the run.

Fresh out of drama school (WAAPA 2007), Mathers was cast a vocal swing on the show before departing the company to star in Mamma Mia! Mathers then returned to Wicked in an ensemble position, understudying Lucy Durack as Glinda until she took over the role for the Asian tour.

The New Zealand season in September 2013 has been billed as the start of a 10th anniversary tour, which is set to include Australia. It is understood that the company touring to New Zealand is likely to be the same cast bringing the blockbuster musical back to Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in May 2014.
Wicked will also be flying across the country in a return Australian tour after the Melbourne season.
Auditions for the production took place recently in Melbourne and Sydney and further cast announcements are expected soon.
