Creator of The Rocky Horror Show, Richard O’Brien, will be joining the Australian production in Melbourne for selected performances at the Comedy Theatre!
Co-producers Howard Panter and John Frost have confirmed that the O’Brien will step into the role of the Narrator at performances on June 30, July 1, 2, 5 (5.30pm only), 7, 8 and 9.
Bert Newton, who is currently playing the role, will continue to perform as The Narrator at all other scheduled shows.
Although he starred as Riff Raff in the cult film adaptation of the musical, he has only rarely appeared on stage in The Rocky Horror Show. Adelaide audiences were treated to his performance as The Narrator last year and Melbourne theatre goers now have a chance to see the mastermind behind the show in action!
“We are thrilled that Richard O’Brien is joining us for a few performances in Melbourne to play the Narrator. To have the creator of this iconic musical as part of the production for a short time is a dream come true, and I’m sure Rocky Horror fans will flock to Melbourne to see this unique opportunity,” said producers Howard Panter and John Frost.
Also starring in the production is Helpmann Award winning actor Craig McLachlan, Australia’s newly announced Sound of Music star Amy Lehpamer, Stephen Mahy, Kristian Lavercombe, Jayde Westaby, Angelique Cassimatis, Nicholas Christo and Brendan Irving. Completing the cast are Nicholas Eaton, Meghan O’Shea, Suzanne Steele, Darren Tyler and Drew Weston.
Australia’s new 40th Anniversary production of The Rocky Horror Show played seasons last year in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne and has just completed a wild Sydney season. A final return season at the Comedy Theatre commenced on 11 June, 2015.
