Looking for something to entertain the children and young at heart during the school holidays? Aladdin flies into the Metcalfe Theatre this Christmas for a two week season beginning December 9.
Continuing on from the success John Senczuk endeavour to reintroduce Perth audiences to the Christmas Pantomime in 2010, Mark Barford (The Magic Pudding), Senczuk’s associate director, has written a new localised version of one of the most popular tales of all time.
A young man, Aladdin, is tricked by an evil sorcerer into retrieving a magic lamp from a cave. Through a series of wishes granted from the Genie of the lamp, Aladdin is transformed into a rich and powerful man who attempts to marry the Princess, the girl of his dreams. However, the evil sorcerer kidnaps the Princess and it’s up to Aladdin to save her.
Written and directed by Mark Barford, with a cast including Sam Tye, Michael Bingaman, Atara Lebransky, Angelique Malcolm, Iskandar Sharazuddin and Ian Toyne as the Widow Twankey. Tim How takes up the batton as musical director, with designs by Penny Mazzucchelli and lighting by Aaron Stirk.
