Verity Hunt-Ballard chats to AussieTheatre’s video team about the upcoming return season of Helpmann Award winning Sweet Charity.
Sweet Charity was the first show to be performed in Sydney’s new independent music theatre venue – Hayes Theatre Co – in early 2014 and its sold out season created waves in the music theatre industry. Dean Bryant’s direction, Andrew Worboys’ musical direction and Andrew Hallsworth’s choreography brought the musical into the 21st century and resulted in a raw, sexy and fascinating glimpse into the world of Charity Hope Valentine.
If you missed seeing the show in Sydney (let’s face it, it was VERY hard to get a ticket), don’t despair! It’s coming back to play a season at the Sydney Opera House. A tour to Canberra, Melbourne, Wollongong in 2015 is also scheduled, making this a very important production in the Aussie music theatre scene.
Sweet Charity – the little show that could. And did.
