Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Original Australian Production
10 years after Priscilla Queen of the Desert had its world premiere at the Sydney Lyric theatre, producer Michael Cassel announced today that the musical will return to Australia in 2018 to celebrate the 10th anniversary and its international success.
After its original award winning Australian tour, Priscilla has gone on to successful seasons in the West End, Broadway, Milan, Tokyo, North America, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Cape Town, Manila, and Tel Aviv, with current productions now playing in Paris, Spain, Johannesburg and on Norwegian Cruise Line.
Based on the 1994 Oscar-winning film starring Hugo Weaving, Terence Stamp and Guy Pearce this fabulously funny, fish out of water musical follows Mitzi, Felicia and former Les Girl, Bernadette – who hop aboard a battered old bus named Priscilla bound for Alice Springs.
The Australian tour will open in Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in January 2018 before continuing to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre in May, Adelaide in August and Brisbane in September 2018.
Original Director Simon Phillips will be returning to the production and has said of the opportunity: “It’s a joy to be back in the drivers seat for the homecoming of this bona fide national treasure. Behind the sparkles, feathers and camp feel-good factor is a story that remains as relevant as it did when the film was released 20 odd years ago with a message of hope, tolerance and acceptance.”
Auditions are set to commence in August 2017.
Tickets will be on sale for Melbourne on August 14, for more details and waitlisting visit PriscillaTheMusical.com.au

Is there any information on the casting call for this? Specifically, will they be looking for a trans woman to play the role of Bernadette?
Let us hope they dont cast a woman like they did in the awful TV drama Carlotta
Let's hope they dont discriminate. Anyone of any gender should be able to play the role. It doesnt need to be a transgender
