Going West: Perth’s unprecedented 2016 musical lineup

Perth Musical Theatre fans, it might be time to get that second job!

With recent announcements of shows confirmed for Perth in 2016, and those still rumored, it’s looking like a busy time of bump in and outs at Perth Theatres.

Check out the confirmed musical blockbusters set to hit the West Coast.

The Lion King

Perth has waited a long time for Disney to produce this one in Perth and finally it has arrived. The Lion King has quickly become the hottest and hippest ticket to have. Get your ticket now, but you’ll have to look for dates in February to secure tickets to this one. The Lion King plays until February 2016.

Tickets available through Ticketmaster.

Cats

Really Useful Group and Lunchbox Productions will bring the new London Palladium production of CATS to Perth in April 2016. The newly reworked production now features an 8 piece live band, various changes to some musical numbers (including a street-wise, rapping Rum Tum Tugger and a new tap routine for Jennyanydots). While Delta Goodrem is performing the role of Grizabella on the East Coast, we will have to wait and see who is cast as the ‘Glamour Cat’ for the Perth season.

Tickets available through Ticketmaster.

Ghost

Ghost – Caissie Levy and Richard Fleeshman as Molly and Sam

The West End and Broadway hit musical Ghost is heading to Perth in May 2016. Starring Rob Mills in the role of Sam and Jemma Rix as Molly (made famous in the classic film by Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore) and international star Wendy Mae Brown in the role made famous by Whoopi Goldburg.

Tickets available through Ticketmaster.

We Will Rock You

Eleven years since it first played at the Burswood Theatre, (now the Crown Theatre) We will Rock You will return to Perth in November 2016. We Will Rock You features the hit tunes from Queen and a book by Ben Elton. Keep an eye on AussieTheatre for casting announcements.

Another musical to make a return season to Perth. Last here in 2005, the current tour stars Adam Garcia, Jack Chambers and Gretel Scarlett. Based on the popular 1952 film, the production will see 12,000 litres of recycled water help the cast sing in the rain – literally – every night. Singin’ in the Rain bumps into Perth’s Crown Theatre in December 2016.

Waitlist now for the Perth season.
