Performers Announced for Light the Night 2012

An exciting and eclectic group of performers has been announced for Light the Night 2012, a concert which raises much-needed funds for the Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation.

Matthew Rennie

This year Light the Night will be hosted by Rob Mills (Wicked, Legally Blonde) and Jan van de Stool, the international ‘musical therapist’, created by Australian cabaret and theatre star Queenie van de Zandt.

The concert will be held on Monday 22 October at the City Recital Hall in Sydney.

All performing artists donate their time to help raise money for this vital cause. This year’s stellar lineup includes David Harris (Legally Blonde), Prinnie Stevens and Mahalia Barnes (The Voice), Brendan Maclean (Triple J), leading jazz vocalist Emma Pask, accompanied by Phil Stack (Thirsty Merc), Zindzi Okenyo (STC resident), Trevor Ashley (Hairspray, Fat Swan), Tom Sharah (I Will Survive), upcoming artists TJ Power and Kathy Sgroi, cabaret favourites Tim Draxl and Sheridan Harbridge, Bobby Fox (Jersey Boys), Elise McCann (South Pacific), Johanna Allen (The Threepenny Opera), and cast members from the musical Next to Normal.

Now in its eighth year, Light the Night has raised more than $280,000 for its cause. This year, money will raised will find the Light the Night Research Grant that supports a promising new Gene Control in Acute Leukaemia project being undertaken by St Vincent’s Hospital’s Haematology Research Team.

Light the Night is the legacy of Matthew Rennie, a brave young man who fought a three year battle against leukaemia, unfortunately passing away shortly before the 2007 concert. Matthew’s fight inspired his two brothers, musical theatre performers Shaun Rennie and Adam Rennie, and his Monica Smith and Greg Smith, to create Light the Night, through which Matthew will continue to inspire.
