DIVALICIOUS: UNCUT AND CUT LOOSE

25 – 29 January 2013

Come and see what Australia’s Got Talent didn’t dare show on TV… the humour is back in the act!

Finalists in Australia’s Got Talent 2012, coloratura sopranos from WA Opera, Penny Shaw & Fiona Cooper Smyth will be performing their full-length show “DivaLicious!”

Described as “Great wads of comedy slapped between two divas”, comic sopranos Penny Shaw and Fiona Cooper Smyth fight not only for the top notes but also for Robert “The Phantom” Hofmann’s affection!

Joined by comic baritone Robert Hofmann and pianist David Wickham, the girls will be let loose with comedy and innuendo at the Fringe World Festival as pop, opera & musical theatre are given the DivaLicious treatment…From Mozart to Mamma Mia, Queen to Queen of the Night anything goes!

Fast moving, light-hearted and entertaining, whilst always maintaining the highest musical standards, this show has impressed everyone from the seasoned opera lover to the complete novice.

IF I DROWN I CAN SWIM

29 January – 2 February 2013

What makes a man? How does he learn and unlearn lessons passed down from generations? And what about love?

If I Drown I Can Swim is based on the poetry of local playwright and performer Maitland Schnaars. It is set in the sometimes bewildering yet compelling internal landscape of one man negotiating his identity against history and future.

With subtle whispers and brutal strength, this work weaves deeply personal themes of race, father and son roles and relationships with women, in search of what manhood means in a contemporary world and across generations.

An intimate but bold story of personal growth and survival, If I Drown I Can Swim fuses story, memory, movement and digital images to create a poignant dreamscape that will absorb and disarm with its raw honesty and unexpected beauty.

BRIEFS

29 January – 11 February

All Male ~ All Vaudeville ~ All Trash

This filthy-minded troupe of high-flying circus bandits and savage gender offenders slams together a beef-caked and disorderly line up of Australia’s award winning mischief-makers in a circus infused variety show for the not so faint hearted.

Host Shivannah – love-child of the ringmaster and bearded lady – leads a ragtag team of skillful buccaneers in a contortion of vaudeville, burlesque, circus and comedy. Raw and savvy, this burlesque with balls mixes political conscience and theatrical rule-breaking with heaps of clever parody and good old-fashioned entertainment.
