NIDA launches Independent Production Program with Shallow Slumber

The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) will launch its inaugural Independent Production Program in July with the gripping Shallow Slumber, written by Chris Lee and directed by Peter Mountford.

Focussing on the complex relationship between a young mother and her social worker when a terrible event devastates their lives, Shallow Slumber unfolds backwards to the heart-rending moment when everything changed. It is inspired by Chris Lee’s personal experiences as a social worker in the United Kingdom, and the high profile ‘Baby-P case that saw a mother and her partner convicted over the abuse and eventual murder of a 17-month old boy. Shallow Slumber is a production that looks past the headlines to the very real lives beneath.

NIDA graduates Catherine Terracini and Rebecca Johnston will bring to life this powerful and confronting piece that looks at issues prevalent in society today and often ignored.

The NIDA Independent Production Program provides opportunities to artists and companies, both emerging and established, to extend their theatre practice and develop new work.

Shallow Slumber will play at the NIDA Parade theatres from 4 – 14 July. Bookings via Ticketek.
