Next to Normal opens in Williamstown tonight

Williamstown Musical Theatre Company production of Next to Normal opens with a black tie celebration tonight.

Formed in 1954, as the Williamstown Light Opera Company, their first production was The Pirates of Penzance in 1956 and they have produced major shows every year since.

Next to Normal. WMTC

Next to Normal is about a family trying to grab onto normality as trauma-induced depression and delusion threaten everything they love. The 2009 Broadway production of Next to Normal won Tony Awards (including Best

Score) and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was last seen in 2011 in Melbourne with the MTC’s acclaimed production.

President of WMTC, Marcus Cassidy-Anderson says, “The inclusion of Next to Normal in our 2012 season supports WMTC’s ongoing commitment to not only present traditional musical theatre classics but to also tackle productions that explore new and challenging topics, themes and concepts.”

Managed by a volunteer committee, the company welcomes anyone with an interest in music theatre and encourages local involvement at any level from set building to promotion to performing.

Running until 24 November at the Williamstown Mechanics Institute, Next to Normal stars Rosa McCarty, Paul Watson, Bradley Dylan, Brittany Lewis, Zachary Alaimo and Michael Butler.
