New York Musical Theatre Festival chooses Aussie Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life
Amity Dry, best known in Australia for winning Channel 9’s The Block: All Stars, has had her one-woman show selected for the prestigious 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

After seasons in Australia (Melbourne season commences today at Chapel Off Chapel!) Amity will be heading to New York to meet with festival directors and producers. She will cast the show with four Broadway performers, rehearse for a month and then begin her New York season in late July.
Amity’s musical is female-friendly and it asks: What if, instead of the Hollywood version of marriage and motherhood, we saw a depiction of how it really is – exhausting, relentless, exhilarating, funny, joyfully, infuriatingly complicated. The four friends discover that marriage is nothing like the movies, but at least no one can make you laugh like your girlfriends do.
The NY Musical Theatre Festival is the largest of its kind in the world. It presents only 30 productions chosen from a pool of thousands that are submitted to present and stage. More than 70 of the 300 shows presented at the Festival since its inception in 2004 have gone on to have successful lives both on and off-Broadway, as well as in theatre districts around the world. Previous productions include hits Next to Normal (which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama) and Altar Boyz (the ninth longest-running show in Off-Broadway history).
