MTC announces new major partnership with MinterEllison

Melbourne Theatre Company has welcomed MinterEllison as a new major partner, announcing a three-year engagement anchored by the MinterEllison Future Directors Initiative.

The Initiative will enhance MTC’s commitment to fostering the professional development of Australia’s next mainstage directors.

MTC Co-CEO Virginia Lovett Said:

‘Supporting Australian artists is critical to the future of the theatre sector and especially important after such a difficult two years for the arts and independent artists.

‘MTC is delighted to be forging a new partnership with MinterEllison and grateful that they share our passion for local talent. Their support safeguards MTC’s ability to invest in the careers of aspiring mainstage directors and provide pathways into the Company. The MinterEllison Future Directors Initiative is an exceptional professional development opportunity and I have no doubt that it will be highly sought after.’

Contributing to the sustainability of the sector by helping to create career pathways, the MinterEllison Future Directors Initiative offers paid placements for assistant directors to work alongside senior theatre directors on an MTC production.

It is an invaluable opportunity for participants to learn about the process of developing productions for large-scale companies, and will encourage fresh, new voices and perspectives to the stories MTC tells in the future.

Each assistant director will gain practical experience, hone skills and develop relationships which will support taking the next steps in their careers.

Matthew Hibbins, MinterEllison Managing Partner – Melbourne Said:

We are proud to be partnering with MTC at such a critical time for Melbourne’s arts and culture community. Through the MinterEllison Future Directors Initiative, fresh new voices and perspectives in the stories we tell can be nurtured and encouraged. It is an initiative that is true to our purpose of creating lasting impacts.

MinterEllison is Australia’s largest law firm providing legal and consulting services through a global network of affiliated firms and associated companies. MinterEllison has a long history of community partnerships, all embedded with a spirit of purpose to create and amplify lasting impacts.

MTC’s partnership with MinterEllison will commence in January 2022.

Applications for the 2022 MinterEllison Future Directors Initiative will open in early October 2021 with placements to commence next year.
