More casting announced for Les Miserables film

With filming set to begin in March this year, the casting for Tom Hooper’s (dir. The King’s Speech) musical film version of Les Miserables is nearly finalised.

Twitchfilm.com has reported that Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Mamma Mia! movie) and Taylor Swift (American country sensation) have been offered the coveted roles of Cossette and Eponine respectively. Neither of the two women have been confirmed at this stage, but with offers on the table, who could resist such an honour?

Australians Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe will come head to head as Jean Valjean and Javert as reported on AussieTheatre.com last year. Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter are set to tackle the Thenardiers while Anne Hathaway will step up as Fantine and Eddie Redmayne will take on the role of romantic lead, Marius.

This epic film adaptation of Boublil and Schönberg’s blockbuster musical, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, is sure to further boost the general public’s appreciation of the Music Theatre genre. Following in the footsteps of Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera, Nine and Hairspray, it appears that Hollywood is enamoured by movie musicals – as it once was in the golden age of Astaire, Rodgers, and Kelly.
