The Cold Reading Series Melbourne is a monthly event where writers can test their scripts; actors can sink their chops into new work; and all others who wish to come along are free to comment and mingle.
Co-creator and script selector Fiona Elloise Bulle explains that there is something for everyone at a CRS event. “For the writers it’s a great chance to hear their work read out loud to an audience. For actors it gives them a chance to practice their cold reading skills, as they are given the scripts only half an hour prior to the reading, and it is also a great chance for them to try out new things. For directors, like writers, it is also a great opportunity for them to hear the works read out loud, with an audience reaction. We also get producers looking for new scripts to work with”, she said. Anyone who wishes to become involved in the Cold Reading Series as a writer needs to submit their scripts at least 8 days before the event, as the scripts are officially announced one week before. To read at the event, actors must arrive at 6:30pm for casting. No preparation is needed – just turn up and prepare to cold read!
The event itself if free, and audience members are an integral part of the puzzle, explains Bulle: “It’s not necessary to get involved with the writing or the acting, people are more than welcome to just sit in the audience, as the audience is just as important as the scripts and the actors.” The next Cold Reading Series will take place on Monday December 5, 2011 at Felix Bar, St Kilda. 7pm (arrive 6:30PM for casting)Felix Bar11 Fitzroy StSt Kilda For more information contact crsmelbourne@gmail.com Read Our Full Interview with Fiona Elloise Bulle about the Cold Reading Series Melbourne Here
