McKee to make cabaret debut

Sydney performer Katie McKee will make her cabaret debut with a brand new show next month.

Sydney performer Katie McKee will make her cabaret debut with a brand new show next month.

Identity Crisis pokes fun at the seriousness and stupidity of ourselves: a funny and moving cabaret, which sings a familiar tune. From contemporary music theatre to re-vamped pop & rock, Identity Crisis is a one-woman show…or is it?

Originally hailing from Brisbane, McKee graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) with a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) in 2008. Her highlights included Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd; The Young Wife in Hello Again; West Side Story; Blood Brothers and Oklahoma! with Jill Perryman. She also created the role of the Witch in the WAAPA Screen Academy and City of Perth short film The Mystery Bride.

Since graduating McKee toured New Zealand with Opera Australia’s My Fair Lady, has taken on lead roles in a few short films and recently travelled to the USA attending classes and seeing the shows. She has just completed the rigorous National Actor’s Intensive course with TAFTA and performed as backing vocalist in Sydney’s Carols in the Domain. She was also a finalist in the 7th Annual Cabaret Showcase.

Identity Crisis is at the Sound Lounge (Seymour Centre) on September 15 and September 18.

Tickets are on sale Monday.
