Matthew Lee Robinson
New York-based Australian composer Matthew Lee Robinson will return to Melbourne next month to present New Voices 2017, this year with both participant and auditing positions available.
12 participants will be selected to take part in the highly acclaimed workshop from 10am-6pm on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May at Australian Institute of Music, (Peter Calvo Auditorium) and for the first time ever, a select number of auditing positions will be opened, extending the reach of the workshop.
Each participant will be personally assigned two songs from Robinson’s catalogue of award-winning musicals and will receive a private coaching session, participate in a two-day group workshop and feature in an exclusive showcase concert at Chapel off Chapel on Monday 29 May.
“I’m very much looking forward to the new layout of New Voices”, Robinson told AussieTheatre.
“I’m always refining the experience for those who take part, and by bringing the number of participants back from 16 to 12, everyone gets to have more time on the floor by being assigned two songs each. Our auditor positions are a first for the program too. I’ve had requests for it in the past, and in opening it up, it adds to the hothouse environment that a workshop like this can offer.”
Due to high demand in previous years, participant positions will be subject to availability. The most promising candidates will be selected and accepted in the order of their applications. When 12 have been selected, applications will close.
Robinson’s music has most recently been heard in concert at Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta and the Lincoln Center Broadway’s Future Songbook Series in New York City.
