Coinciding with the excitement of the opening week in Melbourne, Matilda’s  producers have given fans even more to celebrate. It was confirmed today that audiences in both Brisbane and Perth will have the chance to see the show when it tours later in 2016. Currently on sale in Melbourne until 13 July 2016, the musical is slated to arrive at QPAC Brisbane this November (2016) and Crown Theatre Perth in February 2017.

Having proven an enormous success internationally, playing to packed houses and capturing the imagination of young and old alike, Matilda The Musical’s Australian premiere opened in Sydney on August 20 last year and enjoyed an incredibly successful season. (Read our review here)

Royal Shakespeare Company’s Executive Director Catherine Mallyon, who is in Australia for the show’s official Melbourne opening tomorrow night, has been “bowled over by the fantastic response of Australian audiences so far”.

“We are thrilled to announce today that Matilda The Musical will also play in Brisbane and Tim Minchin’s hometown of Perth. Matilda has travelled many miles since the show’s beginnings in Stratford-upon-Avon and it is great we can bring it to Queensland and Western Australia,” she said.

The announcement is also great news for the young performers in QLD and WA who will have the opportunity to audition for this exceptional show. In every production worldwide, four lucky girls share the title role of Matilda at any given time and at least three casts of children alternate the other 8 youth roles in the show.

Matilda The Musical is based on the beloved novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl. It is the story of an extraordinary girl who armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.
