Malthouse Theatre presents experimental Chinese theatre maker Wang Chong’s MADE IN CHINA 2.0

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH ONE OF CHINA’S MOST PROVOCATIVE EXPORTS

Wang Chong is recognised around the world as one of Beijing’s most significant theatre directors, celebrated for his visionary experiments with classic and contemporary plays.

Chong returns to Malthouse Theatre following the sell-out success of Little Emperors presented in Asia TOPA 2017, and teams up with director and production designer Emma Valente, dramaturg Mark Prit chard, and co-designer Emma Lockhart Wilson to shine the spotlight on his own experiences as an artist.

In Made in China 2.0, Chong takes audiences on a journey deep inside his personal experiences of creating theatre around the globe, unpacking stereotypes of the global expectations of what China brings to the world. An immersive, funny, brilliantly crafted one-person-tour-de-force, this production reveals an illuminating portrait of family, pop culture, and the role of the artist and provocateur in uncertain times.

Made In China 2.0 recently had its premiere season abroad at Arts Emerson, Boston’s leading presenter of contemporary world theater and film and plays from 28 February – 19 March in Malthouse Theatre’s Beckett Theatre.
