The final show for Hayes Theatre Co’s 2016 season will by Jerry Herman’s Mack & Mabel, with a four week season confirmed at the Potts Point venue.
The news comes after Vic Theatre Company’s production of Spelling Bee – which was announced to fill the November/December slot at Hayes Theatre Co in June – cancelled its scheduled tour to Sydney.
Presented by Working Management in association with Hayes Theatre Co and directed by Trevor Ashley, Mack & Mabel will open on 18 November starring Scott Irwin and Angelique Cassimatis.
The iconic score features Broadway classics including ‘I Won’t Send Roses’, ‘Wherever He Ain’t’ and ‘Look What Happened to Mabel’, telling the story of silent movie director Mack Senett and iconic silent movie star Mabel Normand.
“I’m excited to be directing Mack & Mabel in what is its first full professional production in Sydney,” said TrevorAshley.
“It’s a great piece, with a score written by the master of the showtune, Jerry Herman, and features so many classic songs that I can’t wait to hear Scott and Angelique deliver. It’s a huge coup to have Scott Irwin take on Mack, the gruff movie mogul, especially as we’ve been onstage together in Hairspray for almost 400 performances. He’ll be utterly charming. And as for Angelique: she is a star on the rise, and it’s very special to give her a vehicle to show her incredible talents, especially in knockout numbers like Wherever He Ain’t and Time Heals Everything.”
Expect epic tap numbers from choreographer Cameron Mitchell (whose clever and energetic choreography featured so heavily in Heathers) a gorgeous set and costume design from Ross Wallace and Angela White respectively and an incredible soundtrack from Musical Director Bev Kennedy.
Pre-sale tickets for Hayes Theatre Co subscribers are on sale now and general sale commences Tuesday 20 September 2016.
