Following the success of their August 2010 season, Harvest Rain Theatre Company brings their smash-hit production of Jesus Christ Superstar back to the QPAC Playhouse stage in Brisbane. The return season was initially scheduled for early 2011, but was postponed due to the devastating floods in Brisbane this year, which also closed block buster musical Wicked for several weeks. Directed by Tim O’Connor, this exhilarating and emotionally powerful story will return on a spectacular scale with a huge cast and a live band. Acclaimed original cast members Luke Kennedy (Jesus), Naomi Price (Mary) and Lionel Theunissen (Pilate) will be joined by Melbourne musical theatre performer Paul Watson (pictured) as Judas – replacing Tod Strike who is now understudying the Phantom in Love Never Dies. Watson has recently appeared in the national productions of Jersey Boys, Guys and Dolls and Fiddler On The Roof, and is thrilled to be joining the Queensland cast of Jesus Christ Superstar. “I’m really excited to be performing again, and can’t wait to meet all the wonderful people at Harvest Rain. I’m also looking forward to performing in front of Brisbane audiences for the first time!” Harvest Rain’s Artistic Director Tim O’Connor says, “We are thrilled to be bringing our most successful production ever back to QPAC in 2011 and are especially excited to have this rescheduled season after the floods hit Brisbane earlier this year causing our first return season to be postponed. Superstar was received with overwhelming enthusiasm and appreciation by audiences and critics last year, and we can’t wait for the Second Coming!”
