Jenny Liu and John Adam join the cast of Opera Australia’s The King and I

Opera Australia’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini and Australia’s most prolific theatrical producer John Frost have announced further casting for their upcoming co-production of The King and I.

Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes will star in The King and I for Opera Australia.

Making her professional debut in the role of Tuptim will be young soprano Jenny Liu, who completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is currently studying an Advanced Diploma of Opera

In the dual roles of British Diplomat Sir Edward Ramsey and Captain Orton will be John Adam, who most recently appeared in Bell Shakespeare’s The School For Wives.

As previously announced, Australia’s golden girl of the stage and screen Lisa McCune will star as Anna Leonowens in this Tony Award-winning Australian production. The King of Siam will be played by McCune’s South Pacific co-star Teddy Tahu Rhodes in Brisbane and Sydney, and by Jason Scott Lee in Melbourne. McCune and Rhodes will complete their current contract as the stars of South Pacific (also co-produced by Opera Australia and John Frost) in Adelaide on January 26 ahead of a rehearsal period with director Christopher Renshaw in early 2014 for The King and I.

The King and I also stars Chinese-born Australian opera singer Shu-Cheen Yu as Lady Thiang and Adrian Li Donni as Lun Tha. Ensemble members include Bianca Baykara, William Centurian, Jade Coutts, Teresa Duddy, Vivien Emsworth, Elle Evangelista, Carolyn Ferrie, Chris Fung, Kiana Gallop-Angeles, Ella Jarman, Patrick Jeremy, Leah Lim, Anna McGrath, Seann Matthew Moore, Matthew Nguyen, Rip-Van Parks, Alexis Pedraza-Sampang, Hayanah Pickering, Marcus Rivera, Michelle Rozario, Ariya Sawadivong, Victor Siharath, Nicholas Sopelario and Yong Ying Woo.
