The best and funniest comic improvisers around are getting ready to show off their greatest hits for a week from Tuesday July 31 during the Sydney Impro Festival, at Newtown’s own New Theatre.
Featuring seven different shows, some of them two per night, the legends of Theatresports and its spin-offs shows are coming together for a week of completely made-up mayhem.
There’s the long form impro The Whole Story, the epic WW2 comedy Churchill’s Unmentionables, and the Shakespeare-styled Bard to the Bone. There’s chaos in the form of The Director’s Mind and Puppets versus People, and then there’s Lab-rinth, a bizarre improvisation of the classic David Bowie film.
There’s also the ultimate competitive challenge in the world of improvations: The Theatresports Cup – Winner’s Cup, a playoff between the current holders of the Cranston Cup, the Scared Scriptless Cup, the Sydney University Theatresports Cup, and the recent NSW High School Theatresports Championships.
Head to the New Theatre and laugh at the expected unexpected. For bookings and more information, visit www.newtheatre.org.au
