Hollywood heads to Darlinghurst

Some big Hollywood names are set to hit the small Darlinghurst Theatre.

Well, in spirit anyway!

In his award winning comedy The Pitch, the versatile Peter Houghton channels Robert De Niro, Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russell Crowe, just to name a few.

The Green Room Award Winning comedy comes to Darlinghurst Theatre Company in January 2010 after incredibly successful seasons in Melbourne, London, Edinburgh and a national tour of Australia in 2008.

Written and performed by Houghton, a nine time green room award nominee, The Pitch is an hilarious satire about the trials and tribulations of screenwriter, Walter Weinermann, preparing his film pitch for a panel of Hollywood heavyweights.

It’s Walter’s one shot at the big time… and there’s a lot at stake. It’s a chance for immortality. It’s a chance to prove to the world that he’s got what it takes…and maybe it’s a chance to win back his ex-girlfriend who dumped him for a born-again Christian.

Set in Walter’s dingy apartment as he desperately practices his pitch. His script is an action, mystery, revenge, loser makes good, romance film set in way too many exotic locations and with the most star studded cast imaginable.

Inspired by his own attempt to pitch a film script, Houghton has concocted this incredibly funny play, revolving around this yet to be made blockbuster film that by the end of the night, you’ll wish was in the cinemas for you to watch.

The Pitch is directed by Anne Browning. Husband and wife team, Peter and Anne have often collaborated together, most recently on The China Incident where they swapped roles with Peter directing and Anne performing. They live in Melbourne with their two young children.

The show previews from January 5 ahead of a January 7 opening at the Darlinghurst Theatre. Bookings: www.darlinghursttheatre.com.
