News Flash – Hairspray is Stopping the Beat

The final performance of Hairspray – The Musical will take place on Sunday October 9, 2011 after more than 300 shows in Australia.

The show first opened in Melbourne at the Princess Theatre in October, 2010 before transferring to Sydney in June 2011.

In a media statement today, it was suggested that the show may be touring internationally in the coming months:

Press notes read: “Touring options are being considered and strong interest is shown from overseas producers for international productions of David Atkins’ spectacular production”.

With original direction, design and choreography, Hairspray is a truly Australian production.

In his review of the production, Troy Dodds said:

“The production which opened in Melbourne last year, and moved to Sydney on Thursday, is brand new – it takes full creative licence and creates something never seen in the world before.

That creative licence has developed an amazing set, made up of LED screen panels which depict much of the traditional set structure, but allow for new visual tricks that otherwise wouldn’t have been in possible.”
